PRACTICE: Students are encouraged to practice consistently and for at least one half-hour in a day. As a student advances, so practice increases. Usually, the length of the lesson is a good gauge for daily practice.

RECITALS: There are three opportunities for students to perform in recital. Two combine St. Michael's College students with high school and middle school students at the St. Michael's Recital Hall the first weekend of December and the third weekend of April. The Brass Choirs play at these two recitals. The other is an informal picnic-recital near the end of school in May or June, for beginners and advanced beginners, though any student may perform at the picnic for the experience. Playing in a recital honors students. Please encourage students to play and support others with attendance. All students are invited and strongly encouraged to perform in at least one recital during the year.

AUDITION PRACTICE: All students are given the opportunity to practice their audition skills the second week of November, with a practice audition in the lesson. Each auditioning student must prepare a piece, scales, and for sight-reading, Beginning students at their option may audition using method books, intermediate students must use either district or All State requirements, advanced students must use the upcoming All State requirements. The purpose of this exercise is to provide a safe environment for learning audition skills in the lesson.
